How we started
A technician who left a dealer service department
Marco Ferraro spent eleven years as a technician in a franchised dealer service department before he opened this shop on 61st Street in 2004. The complaint that finally moved him was not the work, it was the pressure: a service menu that upsold whether or not the car needed it, and a bonus structure that rewarded him for finding more wrong with a car rather than for finding the truth about it.
He opened Woodside Car Service with one idea he has not moved from since: the estimate comes before the repair, always, in writing, with photographs, and it never grows once you have approved it. That decision costs the business money on the jobs where a bigger number would have gone unquestioned. It is also a large part of the reason people who tried this shop once are usually still here a decade later.
One location, on purpose
Why this is still the only Woodside Car Service
Opening a second location has been discussed more than once, usually right after a particularly good year. It has never happened, and the reason is unglamorous: the thing customers actually value here, the same technician knowing your car across six visits and an owner who can look at any job on the floor personally, does not survive being split across two buildings and two rosters.
Fourteen thousand square feet on one site lets us put real money into equipment instead of into a second rent, a second set of signage and a second layer of management. It also means that if Elena tells you a Tuesday, it is because Elena can see Tuesday's diary from her own desk, not because a scheduling system somewhere else made a promise on her behalf.
Licensing and insurance
Registered, certified and insured, and happy to show you
We hold a New York State DMV repair shop registration and run an official New York State inspection station on site. Every technician on the floor holds current ASE certification in the areas they work in, and the shop carries garage keepers' liability cover on every vehicle in our care, including the ones parked overnight. Ask to see any of it at the desk — we would rather show you than be asked to prove it later.
None of that is unusual for a legitimate repair shop. What is unusual, in our experience, is a shop that hands the paperwork over before you have to ask twice.
How we work
Two promises we have not moved off since 2004
Nothing gets done to your car that you have not seen a written price for first. We inspect, we photograph what we find, we send you the photographs and a line-by-line estimate, and then we wait. If we open something up and find more, work stops and you get a second estimate before anyone picks a tool back up.
Every repair we sell carries 24 months or 24,000 miles on both the parts and the labour, whichever comes first, and the warranty travels with the car rather than with you. If something we touched fails inside that window we put it right at no charge, and we do not argue about whether it was the part or the fitting. That is the whole point of doing both.
- A written, photographed estimate before any work, on every visit, not only the first one.
- 24 months and 24,000 miles on both parts and labour, and the warranty travels with the car.
- If we open something up and find more, work stops until you have seen a second number.

Queens is one of the most linguistically diverse places in the country, and a shop that can only explain a brake job in English is not serving the block it sits on.

A written estimate with photographs, before any work
Book your car in
Every car that comes in goes on a lift and gets a documented inspection before anything is priced, and that inspection is free. You get photographs of what we found and a line-by-line estimate on your phone, and nothing happens until you reply.
