A written estimate with photographs before any work 000-000-0000

Who we look after

Commuters, families, fleets, and the car you are about to buy

Eight kinds of driver come through this door, and each one needs something slightly different from the same estimate-first process.

The daily commuter — Woodside Car Service, Woodside, Queens, NY

The daily commuter

You drive it to the station, to the school, to your mother's on Sunday, and you need it to start every single time. We keep a service history for your car and tell you what is coming up next visit rather than surprising you with it.

The high-mileage car you intend to keep — Woodside Car Service, Woodside, Queens, NY

The high-mileage car you intend to keep

Past 100,000 miles the question stops being what is broken and becomes what is about to be. We will give you a straight ranking of what to spend money on this year and what can honestly wait.

The family car — Woodside Car Service, Woodside, Queens, NY

The family car

Brakes, tires and the things that hold the car to the road get looked at every visit whether you asked or not, and we tell you what we found either way. There is no version of this where we quietly say nothing.

The car you are about to buy — Woodside Car Service, Woodside, Queens, NY

The car you are about to buy

Two hours on a lift and a written report before you hand over money. We have talked as many people out of cars as into them, and we charge the same either way.

Hybrid and electric drivers — Woodside Car Service, Woodside, Queens, NY

Hybrid and electric drivers

Servicing, brakes, tires, suspension, air conditioning and twelve-volt systems on hybrids and EVs, in a dedicated high-voltage bay. We will also tell you honestly when a battery issue belongs at a franchised dealer.

Rideshare and delivery drivers — Woodside Car Service, Woodside, Queens, NY

Rideshare and delivery drivers

Your car is your income and every hour it sits still costs you. Early drop-off, same-day maintenance where we can, and honest triage on what has to be fixed today versus what can wait a fortnight.

Small business fleets — Woodside Car Service, Woodside, Queens, NY

Small business fleets

Three vans or thirty. Planned servicing around your working week, overnight work, one invoice, and a quarterly report of what each vehicle actually cost you.

The car with a body scar — Woodside Car Service, Woodside, Queens, NY

The car with a body scar

A scuffed bumper or a dented wing before you sell, hand back a lease, or simply stop being irritated by it every morning. Paint matched by camera, not by eye.

What never changes

Different driver, same promise

A rideshare driver who cannot afford a day off the road and a couple buying their first car for a teenager are asking for almost opposite things: one wants speed, the other wants patience. Both get exactly the same estimate before any work, the same photographs, and the same warranty, because the process is not a courtesy we extend to people we happen to like. It is how every car in this building is handled.

In more detail

What each of these actually looks like

  • The daily commuter

Batteries, brakes and tires are the three things that strand a commuter, and all three fail more predictably than people expect. We flag what is due at the visit before it, not the one where it actually fails on a Tuesday morning.

  • The high-mileage car you intend to keep

Past 100,000 miles we rank what to spend money on this year against what can honestly wait, in writing, rather than handing over a wall of red text and letting you guess at the order. Most high-mileage cars fail from neglect of cheap parts, not from anything expensive.

  • The family car

The systems that matter most in a family car are the ones nobody asks about: tire tread depth, brake pedal feel, and whether a warning light has quietly been ignored for a month. We check all three at every visit regardless of what you booked in for.

  • The car you are about to buy

A pre-purchase inspection takes two hours and finds what a private seller's description will never mention: prior accident repair, a hidden leak, a transmission that shifts fine cold and rough warm. We have talked people out of cars as often as into them.

  • Hybrid and electric drivers

Everything about a hybrid or electric car that is not the traction battery, brakes, tires, suspension, air conditioning and the twelve-volt system, is routine work in our high-voltage bay. We say plainly on the rare occasion a battery fault belongs at a dealer instead.

  • Rideshare and delivery drivers

A car that is not moving is not earning, so triage matters more here than anywhere else: what has to be fixed today, what can honestly wait a week, and what is about to strand you mid-shift if it is ignored either way.

  • Small business fleets

Seven vans on one schedule get planned around your working week rather than around our diary, with the longer jobs held for evenings and weekends so nothing is out of service on a Monday morning.

  • The car with a body scar

Most scuffs and dents are a repair, not a replacement panel, and repairing one costs less and keeps more of the car's original factory finish. We quote both ways so you can see the difference before you decide.

Being honest about fit

Who we are probably not the right shop for

Being independent means we can say this without a manager overhearing.

  • Somebody who wants the lowest possible number and nothing else

We do not compete with a shop that quotes a bare part with no labour standard behind it, and we will not cut a corner to match a price. If the lowest number in town is the whole decision, we are probably not that shop, and we would rather tell you now than after you have paid for an estimate.

  • Concours restoration

Matching a factory finish to modern show standards or sourcing decades-obsolete parts for a display car is a specialist trade of its own, closer to a craftsman's workshop than a repair shop. We do honest paint and body work. We are not that.

  • Heavy truck work

We take full-size pickups and vans comfortably, with the lift capacity and the torque range to do it properly. A straight truck, a box truck or anything needing a commercial bay and a CDL to move it is a referral, not a job we take on and hope for the best.

None of that is a failure on your part for asking. A five-minute call usually settles which category a job falls into, and it costs you nothing to find out.

A written estimate with photographs, before any work

Book your car in

Every car that comes in goes on a lift and gets a documented inspection before anything is priced, and that inspection is free. You get photographs of what we found and a line-by-line estimate on your phone, and nothing happens until you reply.
