Before you read these
These are illustrative, and this business is fictional
Woodside Car Service, LLC does not exist. This website was built to demonstrate what a repair shop's site can look like when it is designed, built and hosted properly, and the ten case notes below were written to be representative of the kind of work an honest independent shop actually does, not to describe real vehicles or real customers.
For that reason, none of this page, and nothing else on this site, is marked up as a schema.org Review or an AggregateRating. Search engines and comparison tools read that markup as a genuine, verifiable rating, and a fictional business cannot honestly carry one. Treat what follows as a sample of the kind of write-up a real shop's case notes might look like, nothing more.
Tires & alignment
A steering shake three shops could not cure
A five-year-old crossover shook through the wheel at 60 mph. Two shops had rebalanced the wheels, one had sold an alignment. Road-force balancing found a stiff belt in one front tire — perfectly balanced stationary, badly out of round under load. One tire replaced, $210, problem gone.
Diagnostics
The intermittent warning light that came back four times
A sedan threw a misfire code that three visits elsewhere had answered with plugs, then coils, then an injector. We left it connected to a scope for a day and caught a wiring loom chafing against a bracket, which only shorted once the engine had warmed and moved on its mounts. Repair was $180 of labour and eleven inches of new wire.
Pre-purchase inspection
A pre-purchase inspection that saved $9,000
A customer was two hours from buying a low-mileage SUV. On the lift it showed weld splatter, painted-over crush damage and a rear floor pan that had plainly been replaced. Nothing on the paperwork. He paid us $199 and walked away.
Air conditioning
An air conditioning system that had been 'topped up' five times
Somebody had sold this driver five recharges in two summers. Nitrogen and UV dye found a pinhole in a condenser that had been leaking the whole time. Condenser and a proper evacuation and recharge, $640, and the last two summers have been quiet.
Brakes
A brake job we talked a customer out of
Booked in for pads and discs all round on a chain's recommendation. Measured: front pads at 6mm, rears at 7mm, discs well within tolerance. We charged nothing, wrote down the measurements so she had them, and asked her back in six months. She came back at eleven months and needed fronts only.
Body & paint
A bumper repaired instead of replaced
A leased hatchback with a scuffed and cracked rear bumper, quoted for a full replacement panel plus paint before hand-back. Repaired, filled, blended and cleared for $390 against a $1,240 replacement, and it passed the lease inspection without comment.
Hybrid & electric
A hybrid the dealer would not look at without a battery quote
A ten-year-old hybrid with a warning light was quoted for a full battery pack sight unseen. Our diagnosis found a failed cooling fan for the pack, choked with dust from under the rear seat. Fan, clean, and a reset: $310. The pack was healthy and still is.
Tires & alignment
Winter tires that were never balanced
A driver had used the same winter set for four seasons and complained of vibration every winter. Whoever fitted them each October had never balanced them. Four wheels road-force balanced, $140, and the first quiet winter she had had since buying them.
Fleet
A fleet that was replacing vans too early
A local contractor was retiring vans at 90,000 miles because they became unreliable. We put all seven on a planned schedule and reported cost per vehicle quarterly. Three years later the oldest is at 160,000 and still first out of the yard on a Monday.
Exhaust
The noise that was a loose heat shield
A customer arrived braced for an exhaust system, having been quoted $1,400 elsewhere for a rattle. It was a corroded heat shield clamp. We fitted a new clamp, charged half an hour, and sent him home with the old one in a bag.
On the floor
An ordinary week in the workshop
In their words
What customers say once they have been coming a while
They showed me the old parts
I asked, half expecting a fuss, and they had already put them in a box in the trunk. First shop in fifteen years that has done that without me having to insist.
The estimate came with photographs
I was at work and I could see the actual rust on the actual arm on my actual car. I approved two of the four lines and nobody made me feel bad about the other two.
They told me I did not need the work
I came in ready to spend eight hundred dollars on brakes because a chain told me to. They measured them, wrote the numbers down for me, and charged me nothing.
The vibration is finally gone
Three shops, two years, four balances and an alignment I did not need. Rajib found it in twenty minutes and it was one tire.
They work around my shifts
I drive for a living and a day off the road costs me real money. They take the car at half seven and they tell me the truth about whether it will be ready.
Our vans stopped being a problem
Seven vehicles, one invoice, and somebody who calls me before something becomes an emergency instead of after.
A written estimate with photographs, before any work
Book your car in
Every car that comes in goes on a lift and gets a documented inspection before anything is priced, and that inspection is free. You get photographs of what we found and a line-by-line estimate on your phone, and nothing happens until you reply.
